Pinterest Project - Backwards Hangers

Ok, so we all love Pinterest right? Me too.  EXCEPT, I tend to pin lots of things and never do them.

Until now.

I found this tip there and I put it into practice 6 months ago.  You heard me.

On January 1, 2012 I turned all of hangers backwards, like this (the actual pic from pinterest)

As I wore each item, I washed it and then rehung it the regular way. Then June 1, 2012 came and I pulled everything that was still backwards.

Here's what it looked like before. Note: I only pulled tops.

And now the hard part, not making up excuses to keep the items.

So here are my criteria for clothes I keep:
(1) Do I look good in it?
(2) Am I comfortable in it, meaning, does it fit?
(3) Have I worn it in the past 6 months?
A "yes" to at least 2 means it can stay for a little while longer
If not, its gonna make room for something that does meet :)

Here are the 9 items that had backwards hangers. (It was laundry day and the sheets were drying, excuse our bare bed).  [I did put one item back because its part of my go-to Halloween costume.  Sorry, forgot to take a pic of it.]

So let's see if any of these pass the test and will go back in the closet for another 6 months...
(1) Do I look good in all of these: Peach is definitely my color.  The others are kind of 'eh' now.
(2) Am I comfortable in it: No, it seems they have "shrunk" recently, lol.
(3) Have I worn it in the past 6 months: Obviously not.

So, away you go!

Look at all those extra hangers! Yay!

And to prove (to myself) that I meant it, I took them to Goodwill the very same day. :)

Sadly, I forgot to take an after pic.  Honestly, only 9 tops didn't make a dramatic change, but I can see how this will be useful throughout life.  Also, I'm going to start doing it with the rest of my closet, not just tops.

What Pinterest projects have you done recently? Or which project do you want to do?

  1. 1) I'm cracking up that your "comments" are now "stalkers." bahahahaha!

    2) I read this the other day on my phone and didn't comment so see point 3.

    3) I love this idea. I considered doing it. But the sad part is, is that I don't think I'd like the outcome. I notoriously wear the same clothes over and over because I love them and they are comfy. I know I have other clothes that I "like," but don't "love." Therefore, I would be obligated to get rid of them! EEK! That makes me nervous. I'll keep considering this little project!

    1. I thought the same thing. But 6 months is a long time...I was very surprised to only get rid of 9 items. You could always try it. No one is going to force you to give them away. You don't even have to tell Lee, so he won't expect you to do anything, lol.
